HAMAMATSU, Japan (AP) — World champion Poland came from a set down to beat defending champion Russia 26-28, 27-25, 25-19, 25-22 at the volleyball World Cup on Wednesday.
Bartosz Kurek scored 25 points as Poland improved its record to 2-0.
The United States also stayed unbeaten and gave Japan a first loss by 25-23, 21-25, 25-11, 25-14.
Argentina moved to 2-0 as it outlasted Venezuela 30-32, 25-15, 24-26, 25-13, 15-10. Cristian Poglajen scored a team-high 18 points and Facundo Conte added 17.
Italy also reached 2-0 with a comfortable 25-17, 25-18, 25-15 win over Australia, which dropped to 0-2, while Iran picked up its first win by defeating Tunisia 25-17, 21-25, 25-14, 25-20.
Canada beat Egypt, after almost blowing it, 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 15-12 for its first win.
Two berths for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics are on offer in the 12-nation tournament that runs to Sept. 23.
