GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — According to Wyoming's accountability system, 74 percent of the state's elementary and secondary schools have earned passing grades in the 2014-15 school year.
The Gillette News Record reports (http://bit.ly/1NoUMZ8 ) that about 13 percent of schools exceeded expectations, 32 percent met expectations and 28 percent partially met expectations. About 15 percent of schools failed to meet expectations and 11 percent are being independently reviewed by Wyoming Department of Education staff after appeals from the districts.
This is the second year of accountability ratings in the state. Superintendent of Public Instruction Jill Balow says the ratings are used to target needed improvements. Schools are required to complete a comprehensive plan based on their performance level.
