THERMAL, Calif. (AP) — A dog attack has killed a man and seriously injured a woman near the Salton Sea in the Southern California desert.
Riverside County sheriff's deputies were called to the community of North Shore on Tuesday morning and found a man dead in the front yard of a home.
Deputies said they then heard a cry for help from a woman who was being attacked by two dogs nearby.
Their patrol car lights and siren scared off the animals.
The woman was hospitalized for major injuries. There's no word on her condition.
Authorities searched the area and captured two dogs — including an aggressive animal that had to be tranquilized.
The Desert Sun of Palm Springs (http://desert.sn/1ivMt0P ) says authorities believe the dogs are pit bulls and the owners are being sought.
