SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah has filed a civil rights lawsuit after charges were filed against two animal rights activists protesting outside of Lagoon amusement park. The group says that a city ordinance violates the right to free speech by requiring permits for any sort of protest on public property. Farmington City Manager Dave Millheim says that the city takes free speech seriously, and would repeal any part of the ordinance deemed unconstitutional.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A wildfire burning near Deer Creek Reservoir has spread to 500 acres but the blaze is not threatening any homes. A spokesman with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands says the fire is about 5 percent contained. Investigators believe the blaze was started by a person Monday afternoon.

MIDVALE, Utah (AP) — Police say they've seized nearly $1 million in drugs and two live grenades from a hotel room in Midvale. Authorities from the Unified Police Department said they arrested 38-year-old Anthony Aguilera after learning that he was staying at the Staybridge Suites.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah wildlife officials have discovered another wild duck with avian flu. Leslie McFarlane of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources says that her agency was notified about an infected mallard duck in late August. She says it is the third waterfowl found with avian flu since December. She says people with backyard chickens should also be careful to shield their poultry from wild waterfowl.
