NEW YORK (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is slamming New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, saying his "liberal" law-and-order policies have increased crime in the nation's largest city.
Christie and de Blasio appeared separately Tuesday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
The Democratic mayor says New York streets are safer under his watch, though he acknowledged there have been more homicides this year than at this point in 2014.
The 2016 Republican presidential hopeful says people are getting "more and more fed up" with crime and the city should resurrect a stop-and-frisk police policy.
Mayoral spokesman Peter Kadushin says Christie is as confused about New York's crime figures as he is about his own polling numbers.
Says Kadushin: "They are both down."
Christie says President Barack Obama's policies have also contributed to lawlessness.
