SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State wildlife officials say otters reintroduced to the Provo River four years ago are doing well.

KSL-TV reports (http://t.co/b5iy06lazu) that Kimberly Hersey with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources says they don't have a solid count of the number of otters in the river but that they've been seen in nearby Utah Lake and appear to be reproducing.

Hersey, a mammal conservation coordinator, says the river otters were put in the Provo River in 2011 after officials moved some from the Green River in the Flaming Gorge area.

That area has the largest population of otters in Utah. After officials became concerned about low numbers in the state, otters were brought in from Idaho, Nevada and Alaska in 1989 and placed in the Green River.
