SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's larger counties are putting a sales tax increase to help pay for transportation on the ballot, possibly setting the stage for wide disparity in the state. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Salt Lake County and the heavily populated Wasatch Front counties will let voters consider an initiative that would raise taxes. Under Prop 1, the sales tax would go up by 1 cent for every $4 in purchase.
MURRAY, Utah (AP) — Police are investigating what led to a man being shot to death at a housing construction site in Murray. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that a bicyclist riding on Vine Street heard cries for help Saturday night. A Murray police spokesman says the bicyclist followed the yelling and found 38-year-old Fred Mustain, who was wounded at a home under construction. Police say they do not have a suspect or person of interest in custody.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Police in West Valley City say a woman out walking her dog has died after being hit by a pickup truck. KSL-TV in Salt Lake City reports that a police spokesman says the woman, whose name has not been released, had almost completely crossed Redwood Road when she was struck. The driver remained at the scene.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah (AP) — Police in Bountiful are seeking a man suspected of robbing a father and son in a garage and then later a convenience store. The Deseret News reports that authorities say none of the victims were injured.
