LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky county clerk who has refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples for religious reasons is appealing a judge's decision to put her in jail for disobeying his order. Attorneys for Rowan (ROW'-uhn) County Clerk Kim Davis officially appealed the ruling to the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals on Sunday. Davis has been behind bars since Thursday.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Whole Foods Market says it did not carry the brand of cucumbers recalled after nearly 300 people in 27 states became ill with salmonella. Louisiana's health department had identified Whole Foods and Red Lobster on Saturday as national chains that got rid of the Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce "Limited Edition" cucumbers in Louisiana.
JERUSALEM (AP) — As Europe tries to deal with a massive influx of refugees from the war-torn Middle East as well as African migrants, Israel is building a fence along part of the country's eastern border with Jordan. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls Syria's civil war a "human tragedy" and says Israel has aided its victims, but he says the country is too small to take them.
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — A retired French secret service agent who says he planted the bombs 30 years ago which sank a Greenpeace ship and killed a photographer is apologizing. Jean-Luc Kister tells Television New Zealand that he and his colleagues never meant to kill anybody when they attached two bombs to the Rainbow Warrior on July 10, 1985.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Zoo officials are investigating how a cheetah managed to escape from its enclosure. The escape prompted an hour-long lockdown of zoo visitors Sunday morning while staff found and tranquilized the animal. The cheetah named Pounce was found lying in a landscaped area outside its exhibit but still behind a barrier that kept it out of the public space.
