SOCAL TO TUSCALOOSA — Former Brighton High standout Osa Masina scored his first collegiate touchdown in Southern California's 55-6 win over Arkansas State, and Cottonwood grad Cooper Bateman saw game time in Alabama's 35-17 win over Wisconsin on Saturday.

They were just two of several local high school athletes who opened their college careers over the weekend.

Masina made his debut Saturday night for USC, and it didn't take him long to have an impact. He scooped up a fumble and took it 56 yards to the house as the Trojans (1-0) rocked Arkansas State (0-1) at the Coliseum.

With plenty of competition on a loaded depth chart at Alabama (1-0), Bateman is seeing his stock rise with head coach Nick Saban. The redshirt sophomore completed 7-of-8 passes for 51 yards during the Tides' victory against the Badgers (0-1).
