VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis is asking faithful throughout Europe to shelter refugees fleeing "death from war and hunger." The pope said today that the Vatican's two parishes are taking in two families of refugees. He gave no details as he addressed tens of thousands of people in St. Peter's Square. Thousands of migrants and refugees have arrived by train and bus in cities across Germany overnight.
GRAYSON, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky county clerk continues to sit in jail for refusing to sanction same-sex marriages. But while Rowan (ROW'-uhn) County Clerk Kim Davis is isolated behind bars, about 300 supporters showed up outside the jailhouse Saturday to rally on her behalf. A judge sent Davis to jail until she agrees to follow the court's order to issue licenses to gay couples. She has pledged she never will.
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Gay and straight couples plan to hold a large group wedding today on Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota. The event is in celebration of this summer's U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage. The event was organized by women who had challenged South Dakota's ban on same-sex marriages.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — More than 40 ships are searching the waters off the southern coast of South Korea. They're looking for survivors from a capsized fishing boat. Ten people died and eight others are believed to be missing. The 9.8-ton boat lost communication with another boat on Saturday evening and was found Sunday morning.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — It appears to be a case of "suicide by cop." The police chief of Durham, North Carolina, says his officers fatally shot a man who pointed a gun at them after threatening to kill himself.
