SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Brittney Griner scored 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting and the Phoenix Mercury beat the San Antonio Stars 82-52 on Saturday night.
Phoenix took the lead 1:53 into the game and held it the rest of the way. Griner had 16 points in the first half to help the Mercury take a 42-29 lead. Phoenix emptied its bench for much of the second half and all 12 players who entered the game scored.
Candice Dupree had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Monique Currie had 11 points and seven rebounds. Phoenix shot 52 percent and had 23 assists, led by Noelle Quinn with seven.
San Antonio (7-25) was just 18 of 59 (30 percent) from the floor, including 1 of 12 from beyond the arc. Sophia Malcolm-Young and Valariane Ayayi led the Stars with eight points apiece.
