ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — It's the first Saturday of the major college football season, and the Alabama Crimson Tide is starting off with a tough one. Coach Nick Saban's third-ranked Tide plays 20th-ranked Wisconsin tonight at a neutral site -- Cowboys Stadium (8 p.m. Eastern time). The Badgers are making their debut under new coach Paul Chryst.

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Nobody starts earlier than No. 21 Stanford, which hits the road at Northwestern in an early game (Noon Eastern time). Last season, the Cardinal won their final three games for an 8-5 record after winning at least 11 games and reaching a BCS bowl the previous four years.

ATLANTA (AP) — Sixth-ranked Auburn travels to the Georgia Dome to play Louisville (3:30 p.m. Eastern time). Auburn is trying to live up to the preseason hype as one of the favorites to win the Southeastern Conference. Louisville wants a strong start with two of its first three games against ranked teams. The Cardinals also host No. 12 Clemson on Sept. 17.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The 11th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, coming off an 8-5 season, host Texas (7:30 p.m. Eastern time), which is coming off a very un-Texas-like 6-7 season. The Longhorns want to re-establish themselves as an elite team and a win against a ranked team in the season-opener would be a good start.

NORTON, Mass. (AP) —Brendon de Jonge (deh-YAHNG') takes a two-shot lead over several golfers, including Luke Donald and Rickie Fowler, into today's second round of the Deutsche (DOY'-cheh) Bank Championship outside Boston. De Jonge shot a 6-under 66 yesterday in the second of four PGA Tour playoff events.
