NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) — Police arrested a man accused of firing a gun near the Newberg High School athletic field.
There were no injuries, but the Thursday night gunfire disrupted a soccer match between girls from Newberg and Centennial high schools.
The Newberg-Dundee Police Department said early Friday that 53-year-old Steven Smith was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, unlawful use of a weapon and recklessly endangering another person. Smith, who lives near the field, was being on bail of $32,500.
The shot were fired shortly after 8 p.m. School administrators stopped the game and moved the players and fans into a gymnasium.
Newberg is about 25 miles southwest of Portland.
