SALT LAKE CITY — As much hype as Michigan received before kickoff, their game was a little anticlimactic. For Utah, Travis Wilson looked more confident than ever before, but it was a team effort to get the 24-17 win from Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines. It's the eighth straight season opener win and 11th straight at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Things started coming together for the Utes in the beginning of the second quarter. An 8-yard catch by freshman receiver Britain Covey led to Wilson handing the ball to Devontae Booker on the 1-yard line. The running back reached over the pile of players and got Utah its first touchdown of the season.

I just had the biggest smile on my face when Covey caught that. He's a stud. — ♤Chuck Nazty♤ (@SpyderWebz24) September 4, 2015

The first half also included a Utah defense that helped hold the Wolverines to just three points. Alongside a dominating defensive line, both junior transfer Cory Butler-Byrd and sophomore Marcus Williams came up with interceptions.

The Rice-Eccles record crowd of 47,825 lit up with 5:49 left in the third quarter. Wilson ran for a 14-yard touchdown which put the Ute's up 17-3. It was his 15th rushing touchdown of his career.

But after a close comeback by the Wolverines, it was Justin Thomas' pick six in the fourth quarter that sealed the deal. His 55-yard return — the first of his career — secured the win for the Utes, who start their season undefeated.
