NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. District Judge Richard Berman has ruled that the NFL was wrong to suspend Tom Brady for four games in the "Deflategate" controversy. His decision reinstates Brady for the Patriots' season-opening game. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL') announced soon after the decision that the league will appear the ruling.
NEW YORK (AP) — Second seed Simona Halep (HAL'-ehp) has eliminated qualifier Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the U.S. Open. Also advancing is fifth seed Stan Wawrinka (vah-VRIN'-kuh), who battled through a 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 win over 19-year old Chung Hyeon.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — J.B. Shuck's pinch-hit, two-run triple in the seventh inning lifted the White Sox to a 6-4 win over Minnesota. Shuck's hit helped Chicago overcome a three-run deficit built on a grand slam from Eddie Rosario in the fourth inning. The loss drops the Twins 1 1/2 games back of Texas for the second AL wildcard spot.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Jim Harbaugh era at Michigan opens tonight when the Wolverines start the college football season at Utah. Harbaugh left as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers to take over at his alma mater eight months ago.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The PGA of America will not hold its Grand Slam of Golf for the major champions this year. The 36-hole exhibition was scheduled for next month at Donald Trump's National course in Los Angeles. Because of comments Trump made regarding Mexican immigrants he and the PGA decided to move the event but the PGA hasn't found a suitable course.
