SANTEE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say one person was killed and another was critically injured when a small plane crashed in a Southern California neighborhood and ended up in the driveway of a home.
Santee Fire Chief Richard Mattick says both victims were aboard the single-engine plane that went down around 9:20 a.m. Thursday. Nobody on the ground was hurt.
San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Jim Bolwerk says the pilot was breathing when he was extricated from the wreckage and rushed to a hospital. The other person died at the crash site in the small city of Santee, about 15 miles northeast of downtown San Diego.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the Piper Cherokee crashed about a mile from Gillespie Field airport.
