SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former fire captain of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department is suing the city, claiming the department's new fire chief discriminated against her because she is a woman.
KSL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1L7ApcK ) Dawnya Halliday alleges in her federal lawsuit filed last week that Chief Jess Campbell made sexist comments to her and other firefighters and also implemented a physical agility test that disfavored females. She says she had to delay one of the tests due to a medical condition and was subsequently fired.
Halliday joined the department in 2000 and served as acting chief in 2007. She says she had notified city leaders about the situation but her grievances were ignored.
A Saratoga Springs spokesman says the city doesn't comment on pending litigation.
Halliday is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
