ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A 52-year-old St. George woman accused of causing a fatal accident by texting and driving is set to be sentenced Wednesday.
Carla Brennan pleaded no contest to a reduced automobile homicide charge in a deal with prosecutors in June.
She was accused of rear-ending a car in March 2013, causing it to hit a couple walking on the sidewalk.
Fifty-six-year-old David Henson was killed and his wife Leslee Henson was seriously injured.
Brennan had denied using her phone behind the wheel, saying she texted from home to say she was late for work. But investigators say the messages were sent within minutes of the accident.
Defense attorney Edward Flint says she is a normal person who made a bad mistake. Brennan faces up to a year in jail.
