ANCHORAGE, Alaska — President Barack Obama is making the case for world action against climate change. Speaking in Anchorage, Alaska, Obama says climate change is beyond dispute and the science can't be denied. He said climate deniers are "on their own shrinking island." Obama is spending three days in Alaska. One stop will be a visit to a glacier that is shrinking because of rising temperatures.
HOUSTON (AP) — A lawyer who has represented the Houston man accused of fatally ambushing a deputy as he was buying gasoline says he was told that Shannon Miles has a lifelong history of mental illness. Miles was found mentally incompetent in 2012 after being charged with a fight at an Austin homeless shelter where he was staying. He had to serve months in a state mental hospital. Miles is accused of shooting the deputy 15 times.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Video obtained by a San Antonio TV station appears to show a man with his hands up being fatally shot by deputies. The video was made by a bystander. Bexar (bayr) County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau says what the video shows "is a cause for concern." Deputies were responding to a domestic violence call. A statement says deputies fired after efforts to use non-lethal efforts failed.
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Her principles could create legal problems tomorrow. The Supreme Court has refused to take up the case of a county clerk in Kentucky who won't issue marriage licenses because of faith-based opposition to gay marriage. Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis has now lost at every level in federal court. Her lawyer says Davis has to think and pray tonight.
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — The United Nations says a satellite image confirms that the main building of the ancient Temple of Bel in the Syrian town of Palmyra (pahl-MEER'-uh) has been destroyed. There had been reports that a large explosion set off by Islamic State extremists on Sunday had extensively damaged the 2,000-year-old temple.
