AMES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are investigating the cause of a small explosion and fire at an apartment complex near Iowa State University that injured one person.
The Ames Fire Department says firefighters arrived Monday afternoon at University Towers and discovered a small fire on the second floor. Smoke was reported throughout the stairwells of the 10-story building.
The fire was extinguished a short time later. There is no estimate available on damage to the building.
Authorities say a construction crew was working on a swimming pool on the second floor when a small explosion occurred. A construction worker was taken to the hospital with minor leg injuries.
The building was evacuated and no other injuries were reported. The cause of the explosion and fire remains under investigation.
