SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah state health officials are sounding the alarm about an uptick of e-cigarette use among high school students. A report released today shows nearly twice as many Utah youth used e-cigarettes in 2015 compared to 2013. Adult use of the battery-powered electronic vaporizers that heat liquid nicotine into an inhalable mist remained steady.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's abortion rate fell to the lowest level ever recorded in 2014, continuing a trend seen in Utah and around the country for several years. The Utah Department of Health says there were 4.3 abortions per 1,000 women last year. Laurie Baksh (BACK-sh) with Utah's Department of Health says officials don't know exactly what's causing the rate to fall.
LEHI, Utah (AP) — A woman has been hospitalized after lightning struck near where her family gathered for a picnic in Lehi, sending her into cardiac arrest. The 50-year-old woman wasn't hit directly, but was shocked after lightning hit a tree in the backyard of a home. The lightning strike came during a microburst that hit the area around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials with the Utah Food Bank are warning 10,000 donors that their personal information could have been exposed after someone hacked into the organization's website. Food bank officials told the Deseret news they recently discovered an unauthorized person may have accessed names, addresses, emails, and credit and debit card information.
