MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill has named his son, redshirt freshman Brent Stockstill, his starting quarterback for the Blue Raiders' season opener against Jackson State.

Stockstill made the announcement Monday.

Brent Stockstill redshirted last season after he was 2 of 3 for 41 yards in the season opener. Austin Grammer threw for 2,557 yards and 17 touchdowns with 12 interceptions, and he also ran for 442 yards and six more TDs as Middle Tennessee went 6-6.

The quarterbacks competed throughout August, and Stockstill says both will play Saturday.
