LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas police officer involved in a fatal shooting of a man during a weekend foot chase in an industrial area of North Las Vegas has been identified as an eight-year department veteran.
Police said Monday that 33-year-old Officer Walter Young II was on paid administrative leave pending reviews of the early Saturday shooting that killed 25-year-old James Marcus Brown.
The Clark County coroner reports that Brown died of gunshots to the chest.
Police say Brown ran from a vehicle and displayed a gun before he was shot several times near Losee Road and Sharp Circle. That's near the Interstate 15 Cheyenne Avenue overpass.
Police say Brown was with two other people in a vehicle stopped by police investigating an earlier theft case.
