LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a 20-year-old Australian tourist was seriously injured when she climbed over a block wall and was struck by a vehicle on a busy roadway just off the Las Vegas Strip.
Detective Richard Tusko said Brooke Baldwin of Newport, Australia, was hospitalized at University Medical Center after the crash about 3:45 a.m. Monday on Flamingo Road less than 30 feet east of Las Vegas Boulevard.
Police say 64-year-old Joseph Bukowski, the driver of a 2005 Kia Amanti, remained at the scene during the investigation and wasn't believed to have been impaired by drugs or alcohol.
Crossing the roadway is prohibited, and there is no crosswalk in the area where Baldwin climbed over the divider separating pedestrians and traffic.
Tusko noted that pedestrian bridges are provided at the busy crossroads.
