WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says he is prepared to use military force, but only as a last resort. The Vermont senator tells ABC's "This Week" the United States should have the strongest military in the world, and be ready to act when it or its allies are threatened or in response to genocide. Sanders voted to send troops to Afghanistan after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, but he voted against going to war with Iraq in 1991 and again in 2003.

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (AP) — Health officials in Sierra Leone say the body of a woman who recently died has tested positive for Ebola. The news comes less than a week after Sierra Leone's last known Ebola patient was released from a hospital. That milestone last Monday allowed the West African nation to begin a 42-day countdown toward being declared free of Ebola transmission. Authorities are now trying to determine whether the woman died before or after that countdown began.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A statue of Jefferson Davis has been removed from its place on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin after a failed appeal by a Confederate heritage group. The statue has been a target of vandalism as well as criticism that it is a symbol of racism and discrimination. The university says the statue will be moved to a museum.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A San Diego County beach is open again after being shut when a shark was seen circling kayakers. The 1 1/2-mile stretch of beach in San Diego County, fom La Jolla Cove to Scripps Pier, reopened this morning. A San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman says the beach will remain under a "shark advisory." That means lifeguards will warn beachgoers about the sighting of the 8- to 10-foot hammerhead.

NEW YORK (AP) — "Straight Outta Compton" is the top movie for the third week in a row. Universal's N.W.A biopic grossed an estimated $13.2 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates. The only other film to lead the box office three straight weeks this summer was "Jurassic World." The Christian drama "War Room" proved an unexpected success, taking in $11 million.
