OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Photo Call moved to the lead around the far turn and held off Cushion by three-quarters of a length in the $100,000 Violet Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Trained by H. Graham Motion, Photo Call ran the mile and an eighth over the turf in 1:47 4/5. The Trevor McCarthy-ridden filly paid $6, $3.40 and $2.20 in winning for the third time in 12 starts.
Cushion paid $3.80 and $2.40. Favored Granny Mc's Kitten finished third and was $2.20 to show.
"The plan was to keep her covered up and relaxed as long as possible and that's what I was able to do," McCarthy said. "Around the far turn, I had to swing her out and she really ran on after that."
