DENVER (AP) — Contact lens makers are at a federal appeals court in Denver, defending their pricing policies as they seek to overturn a Utah law banning minimum prices for contact lenses. The manufacturers say the law was crafted just to help the Utah-based discounter, 1-800-Contacts. The state says ending minimum prices would drop the cost of contact lenses by up to 35 percent nationwide.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A teenager charged with luring a 12-year-old neighbor from her home and killing her is set to appear in court today. Prosecutors say that the 15-year-old West Valley City boy strangled Kailey Vijil (VIJ'-el) early the morning of July 17 after he knocked on her door pretending to need help looking for a lost cat.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Health officials say a Utah man has died after contracting the plague earlier this month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it is the 12th case reported in the United States this year and fourth fatality. The CDC says the Utah case involved a man in his 70s, but he declined to release further details.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A polygamous family says the landmark Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage shows that laws prohibiting consensual adult relationships are outdated even if the unions are unpopular. Kody Brown and his four wives argue in court documents that their family life chronicled on the reality TV show "Sister Wives" shows that polygamous marriages can be as healthy as monogamous ones.
