MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — University of Alabama System Chancellor Robert Witt has announced plans to retire next year.
Witt issued a statement Wednesday saying he plans to step down at the end of August of 2016.
The 74-year-old Witt says he is at a time in his life in which he wants to spend more time with his family.
Witt has led the three-campus system since 2012.
He is recommending that executive Vice Chancellor of Finance and Operations Ray Hayes take over as his replacement. University trustees will vote on the appointment next month.
