NEW YORK (AP) — Two first-place clubs are squaring off tonight in New York as the Yankees face the Astros. Coming into play, New York shares first place in the American League East with Toronto, while the Astros top the Angels by 3 1/2 games in the AL West. Each team is 69-55 and has won 6 of its last 10 games.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — James Loney of Tampa Bay has been suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball for making contact with an umpire in Saturday's game at Oakland. The first baseman has appealed the sanctions and will be able to continue playing until the appeal process is completed.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking into the possibility of signing free agent quarterback Michael Vick as a backup to Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH'-lihs-bur-gur). The team's current No. 2 signal-caller, Bruce Gradkowski, is dealing with an injured finger. Vick, who is now 35, spent the 2014 season with the New York Jets, throwing for two touchdowns against the Steelers in an upset win on Nov. 9.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Los Angeles Clippers have been fined $250,000 by the NBA after an investigation found the team had violated league rules while trying to re-sign DeAndre Jordan last month. The league says the Clippers had made a presentation to the then-free agent that improperly included a potential third-party endorsement opportunity.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Defenseman Mark Giordano has signed a new contract with the Calgary Flames. The All-Star and team agreed on a six-year deal after he had 11 goals and 37 assists in 61 games before sustaining a season ending injury on Feb. 25. Giordano has 66 goals and 179 assists in 510 games, all with Calgary.
