LONDON (AP) — Petr Cech demonstrated why he will be an asset rather than a liability for Arsenal by producing the saves that secured a 0-0 draw against Liverpool on Monday after opening-day blunders proved so costly for his new club.
It was a first Premier League clean sheet in Arsenal colors for the former Chelsea goalkeeper, who had to cope with a fragile defense in front of him.
And with the Gunners forwards so feeble, the draw left them with four points from a possible nine at the start of the season, far from the form that will see them threaten to win the title for the first time since 2004.
Had it not been for Cech's contribution, Liverpool might have been celebrating a third consecutive victory.
