This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
The Tour of Utah is an internationally-sanctioned cycling event, and is one of the top races for professional cyclists in North America. Starting today, you can see world-class cycling talent right here in Utah, as the 2015 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah takes off in Northern Utah. It's known as "America's Toughest Stage Race".
The economic impact from the Tour of Utah is big with national television coverage on FOX Sports Network reaching 100 million homes. Fans in over 146 countries can watch the race on live web cast with Tour Tracker experience online. Last year the race set an attendance record with an estimated 275,000 spectators and generated $20 million in revenue. Not to mention it supports Utah's thriving tourism industry, which employs approximately 10 percent of the Utah workforce.
This year's event will include some of the best men's professional cycling teams competing over 700 miles. Four of those teams are coming to Utah fresh off the Tour de France. This year's event will be focused in Northern Utah starting in Logan and making its way through Tremonton, Antelope Island State Park, Soldier Hollow, Salt Lake City and concluding in Park City with over 50,000 feet of elevation gain. It will also be riding through Idaho for the first time, only the second time another state has been part of the tour route. This is also the fifth year the Tour of Utah will be sanctioned as a men's event on the UCI America Tour.
You can bring the whole family to enjoy the Tour of Utah throughout the race week with festivals and community events near the start and finish line. This is free to the public and open to all spectators and includes everything from interactive displays and live music to bounce houses and family obstacle courses.
