SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Augustana College says it will rebrand itself as Augustana University on Sept. 1.
The decision by the private school's Board of Trustees comes after nearly two years of strategic planning, analysis and discovery.
School officials say the new name reflects Augustana's growing number of programs and centers for undergraduate and graduate students, recognizes the growth on campus and captures the school's goals for the future.
They say it became apparent that the school needed to invest in growth and its ability to serve others to meet the demands of a workforce hungry for entrepreneurial and thoughtful professionals.
Students, campus community members, alumni and others are invited to attend a formal announcement at Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Sept. 1.
