ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Central Michigan football coach John Bonamego has had his final scheduled radiation treatment for cancer.
The school confirms that Bonamego completed his treatment Friday at University of Michigan Cancer Center. Bonamego announced in June that he had cancer in his left tonsil, but that it was discovered early and was treatable.
Bonamego and the Chippewas open the season Sept. 3 against Oklahoma State.
Bonamego became Central Michigan's coach in February. He had been special teams coordinator for the Detroit Lions for the past two seasons.
