ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — Financially troubled South Carolina State University in Orangeburg has reached its fall enrollment goal of 2,650 students.
The school tells local media outlets that while the goal has been surpassed, final figures for the semester won't be released until the drop-add day Monday. Some students are still coming in for classes.
Enrollment has steadily declined and the university has failed to meet enrollment projects for the past five years. Last fall, the enrollment was about 370 students shy of the goal of almost 3,700 students.
Earlier this year, the university's old board was fired and a new one put into place.
The university has an estimated $23 million debt.
