SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A state lawmaker says Utah needs to set standards for the use of body cameras by police so officers know when they should turn the devices on, who they should film and how long they should keep the video. Republican Daniel McCay of Riverton told lawmakers on an interim committee yesterday that he's working with police to come up with standards that lawmakers may consider in 2016.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Beaver County sheriff is the subject of a lawsuit filed by a former deputy who says he was fired for reporting that his boss choked a suspect. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the county and Sheriff Cameron Noel are already named in a lawsuit filed by Timothy Wilson, the man who says Noel assaulted him. Cody Allen testified about the choking allegations in front of Utah's Peace Officer Standards and Training regulators. He was fired several months later for being drunk at a Halloween party and threatening a co-worker.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The U.S. government will invest nearly $50 million in water conservation and reuse projects in the drought-stricken West.
