WASHINGTON (AP) — Newly declassified documents give us a look into the mind of Osama bin Laden. During his years in hiding, the al-Qaida leader urged followers to concentrate on attacking Americans and wrote bittersweet letters to one of his wives and his children. The documents were seized in bin Laden's compound in Pakistan during the 2011 raid in which he was killed.

NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — President Barack Obama says the threat posed by climate change is evident all around. The president says those who deny it is real are putting at risk the security of the United States and the military sworn to defend it. Obama told graduates of the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut, "We need to act and we need to act now."

HONOLULU (AP) — A second Marine has died of injuries he received after an Osprey aircraft crashed during a training exercise last weekend in Hawaii. The MV-22B Osprey, a hybrid aircraft that can fly like a helicopter and a fixed-wing airplane, went down Sunday at a military base outside Honolulu with 21 Marines and a Navy corpsman on board.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) is giving the Department of Veterans Affairs a failing grade when it comes to making improvements. In a speech on the House floor, Boehner said the VA is no better off a year after former VA Secretary Eric Shinseki (shin-SEHK'-ee) resigned amid a scandal over long wait times for veterans seeking health care and falsified records to cover up the delays.

NEW YORK (AP) — After 33 years of hosting his late-night show, 11 of them on NBC, the rest on CBS, David Letterman is signing off. Letterman is hosting his final episode of CBS' "Late Show" today. Stephen Colbert (kohl-BEHR') will replace him in September.
