President cites climate threat... 'Operation Pilluted'... Big bank fines

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is bringing a message on climate change to Coast Guard Academy graduates today: Not only is climate change bad for health and the environment, it's also a threat to national security. In prepared remarks, the president says make no mistake — climate change will impact how the U.S. military defends the country.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Drug Enforcement Administration is cracking down on "pill mills" in the South. The Associated Press has learned of early-morning raids in Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. Suspects in the DEA's "Operation Pilluted" include doctors and pharmacists. The crackdown is focused on the illegal sale of painkillers, including the powerful drugs oxycodone and hydrocodone.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Four big banks will be paying $2.5 billion in fines. JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Barclays and The Royal Bank of Scotland admit they conspired with one another to fix rates on U.S. dollars and euros traded in the huge global market for currencies. A settlement with the U.S. Justice Department says the criminal behavior took place between December 2007 and January 2013.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Are some of the bikers who were caught up in the violence in Waco, Texas, that killed nine people innocent of wrongdoing? The wife of one says so. Katie Rhoten tells The Associated Press that when the shooting started, her husband, Theron, ran for cover and was later arrested, along with other "nonviolent, noncriminal people." Some 170 people were taken into custody; all were charged with engaging in organized crime.

ROMNEY, W.Va. (AP) — The erotic movie "Fifty Shades of Grey" has a West Virginia high school seeing red. One of the teachers has been suspended for showing part of the R-rated film to students as a reward for good work. The teacher says she didn't know what the movie was about.
