SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft says he won't appeal his team's punishment in "deflate-gate." The NFL is fining the Pats $1 million and forcing them to give up two draft choices for their role in using underinflated footballs in the AFC championship game. Quarterback Tom Brady is still appealing his four-game suspension.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The number of cars and trucks included in what is now the largest auto recall in U.S. history is going to double. The reason: potentially explosive air bags. Under pressure from U.S. safety regulators, Takata Corp. has agreed to declare nearly 34 million air bags defective. Faulty inflators that can send shrapnel flying into the passenger compartment have been blamed for six deaths.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The federal government has released a wildfire strategy for the West aimed at protecting sagebrush country that is home to a struggling bird species. The plan is designed to help prevent the sage grouse from being classified as threatened or endangered, which would result in restrictions that experts say could damage the economies of the 11 states where they are found.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks have drifted mostly lower, led by declines in energy stocks as the price of oil dropped. The Standard & Poor's 500 fell a point. The Nasdaq composite fell eight points. But the Dow Jones industrial average bucked the trend, edging up 13 points. It was the fourth straight gain for the Dow.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A former security guard at a Kentucky distillery stands accused of doing nothing — while thieves spirited away thousands of dollars' worth of whiskey. Prosecutors say the alleged head of a bourbon theft ring paid Leslie Wright $800 to look the other way on two occasions as the thieves made off with eleven stainless steel barrels of whiskey. Wright is said to be cooperating with authorities,
