SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The next legislative session is eight months away, but Utah lawmakers are already working on bills including one to halt a move to relocate the state prison. Republican Rep. Fred Cox said it may make sense to keep the prison at its 700-acre site in Draper and start replacing buildings.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Farmers and ranchers in the West's worst-hit drought regions will receive an additional $21 million to help them save water and soil despite the long dry spell. The assistance will go to areas of the West that are rated in the highest categories of drought, including parts of Utah.
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — The secrets of an ancestral Puebloan pit house north of St. George will be discovered another day under an agreement between archaeologists, state officials and a developers. The Spectrum newspaper reports that developer Brooks Pace will hand over the site in the Dammeron Valley to the Archaeological Conservancy until advances in technology and techniques can provide more answers.
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A Montana company will take over a Wyoming nursing home after its Utah-based parent company abandoned the facility earlier this month. The Casper Star-Tribune reports that Health Management Services told Wyoming officials it reached a lease agreement with the nursing home's owner, Deseret Health Group. Deseret is facing bankruptcy.
