RENO, Nev. (AP) — A jury of eight men and six women will hear arguments in the murder trial of an elderly Sparks man who says he was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot an unarmed trespasser in a case that has brought attention to Nevada's "stand-your-ground" law. KOLO-TV in Reno reports the trial is expected to last two weeks. Prosecutors maintain Wayne Burgarello was acting out of revenge, not self-defense.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Federal water managers are projecting Lake Mead will drop to levels in January 2017 that could force supply cuts to Arizona and Nevada. Arizona's water allocation could be cut 11.4 percent and Nevada's by about 4.3 percent. A closely watched U.S. Bureau of Reclamation report predicts water levels will be just 2 feet above a trigger point next January on the Colorado River reservoir supplying much of the Southwest's drinking water.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities in Las Vegas have identified a Los Angeles couple as two of three people killed in a rollover automobile crash during the weekend on a state highway near the Colorado River resort town of Laughlin. The Clark County coroner says 82-year-old Raymond Guzman and 84-year-old Mary Hellan Guzman died in the wreck on State Route 163.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A severe thunderstorm that brought with it pounding rain and hail as large as a quarter is leaving Las Vegas. A National Weather Service meteorologist says the unusually wet May weather represented the latest in several low-pressure systems moving up from the Pacific Ocean. Colder weather is expected to continue with a chance of showers again Friday.
