LAS VEGAS (AP) — A severe thunderstorm that brought pounding rain and hail as large as a quarter is leaving Las Vegas. The storm brought more than an inch and a quarter of rain to the Summerlin area northwest of Las Vegas. At McCarran International Airport, rain amounted to less than one-tenth of an inch.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Assembly has approved a bill that asks Congress to transfer control of more than 7 million acres of federally owned land to the state. Supporters said the measure would bring millions of dollars in revenue to state coffers, and that control of the state land should lie with state government.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers have defeated a proposal that would have required school districts to allow children to opt out of standardized testing. Most of the state's school districts already allow parents to opt out of testing, but Republican Assemblyman Brent Jones said he wanted that in law.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clark County Coroner has identified a Los Angeles couple killed in a rollover automobile crash yesterday afternoon on a state highway near Laughlin. The coroner says 82-year-old Raymond Guzman and 84-year-old Mary Guzman died in the wreck. The name of a 77-year-old woman also killed in the wreck wasn't immediately released.
