LOS ANGELES (AP) — James Kaprielian and David Berg combined to throw the first no-hitter in UCLA history, a 1-0 victory over Arizona in 10 innings Friday night.
Kevin Kramer's sacrifice fly drove in the game's only run in the bottom of the 10th, setting off a celebration at the plate as Christoph Bono scored the winner.
UCLA said it was the first no-no for the program since the school began keeping baseball records in 1946.
Kaprielian struck out 11 and walked four in nine innings. He pitched out of trouble twice, leaving a runner at third in the third inning, and stranding two in scoring position in the eighth.
The junior right-hander, a possible first-round pick in the Major League Baseball draft next month, has thrown 23 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
Berg (6-1), the Bruins' closer, retired the Wildcats in order in the 10th to set up the walk-off win for UCLA (38-12).
Tyger Talley (5-1) walked Bono to open the 10th, and Bono went to third one out later on Brett Stephens' single. Kramer followed with a liner to center that sent home Bono without a throw.
It was the first time Arizona (28-21) was held without a hit since New Mexico's Jim Kremmel threw a no-hitter against the Wildcats in 1970.
The Wildcats, who entered leading the conference with a .305 batting average, had at least four hits in every game this season.
