NEW YORK (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have recalled infielder Luis Sardinas from Triple-A Colorado Springs after placing shortstop Jean Segura on the disabled list.

The move was made before the last-place Brewers began their 10-game road trip Friday night against the New York Mets. Segura, sidelined by a broken right pinkie, was put on the 15-day DL (retroactive to May 13) during the team's off day Thursday.

Segura has a .306 on-base percentage with two homers, 12 RBIs and six stolen bases. He played in the 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field.

Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said Segura wanted to play through the injury, but the team decided against it.

Hector Gomez was set to start at shortstop. Third baseman Aramis Ramirez returned to the lineup after missing six games with a lower back injury.

Sardinas, who turns 22 on Saturday, will be making his Brewers debut after batting .261 in 43 games for Texas last year. He was obtained in the January trade that sent pitcher Yovani Gallardo to the Rangers.
