BOSTON (AP) — Court action could drag it out for years, but a jury in Boston has sentenced Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) to death. The federal execution would be carried out by lethal injection. His lawyers had argued that the 21-year-old should be spared execution because he was under the influence of his older brother. The 2013 attack killed three people and wounded more than 260 others.

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Mayor Marty Walsh says he hopes the death sentence imposed on Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR' tsahr-NEYE'-ehv) will provide a small amount of closure to those impacted by the attack. In Washington, Attorney General Loretta Lynch called the sentence "a fitting punishment for this horrific crime."

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Federal investigators say they've interviewed the engineer at the controls of the Amtrak train that crashed Tuesday night in Philadelphia. He's said to be extremely cooperative but doesn't recall anything but ringing the train's bell as it moved toward the crash area. The engineer, who spoke with his attorney present, also said he wasn't ill and did not feel fatigued.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and allies are making another push to get Congress to pay for train safety technology and railway improvements. Schumer accused House Speaker John Boehner of "massive ignorance" about rail safety. The harsh criticism of Boehner came a day after the speaker ridiculed a reporter for asking whether the crash in Philadelphia on Tuesday night was caused by a lack of federal funds for Amtrak.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A once-prominent Orthodox rabbi in the nation's capital has been sentenced to approximately six-and-a-half years in prison for secretly videotaping scores of women undressing and using a changing room at a Jewish ritual bath. Prosecutors had sought to put Bernard Freundel (froyn-DELZ') away for 17 years. Freundel's lawyers had argued for community service.
