LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Houston Rockets have forced a Game 7 in their Western Conference semifinal series by outscoring the Clippers 40-15 in the fourth quarter of a 119-107 triumph in Los Angeles. Corey Brewer led the comeback by scoring 15 of his 19 points in the final period. Dwight Howard finished with 20 points and a game-high 21 rebounds, while James Harden added a team-best 23 points despite shooting 5-for-20.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will personally hear the suspension appeal of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who challenged the league's punishment for his role in using deflated footballs during the AFC championship game. League spokesman Greg Aiello has confirmed that Goodell had rejected a request from the Players Association to have the appeal heard by a neutral arbitrator. Brady received a four-game suspension, and the Patriots were fined $1 million and stripped of two draft picks.
BRANDON, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Callahan was back on the ice yesterday, less than 72 hours after undergoing an emergency appendectomy. Callahan skated during a light practice in preparation for the Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Callahan missed the Lightning's 4-1 clincher against Montreal in Game 6 of the second-round series on Tuesday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Robert Streb is the leader heading into the second round of a PGA event in Charlotte. Streb opened with a 7-under 65 that put him one stroke ahead of Patrick Reed and Kevin Chappell. World No. 1 Rory McIlroy opened with a 70 that included a double-bogey on the par-3 17th hole.
