SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A law banning price-fixing for contact lenses that took effect this week in Utah is a setback for the nation's largest manufacturers. Steve DelBianco with the Internet trade group NetChoice says the new law appears to clear the way for the largest online discount seller, Utah-based 1-800 Contacts, to sell discount contacts across state lines despite minimum prices set by the lens makers.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah tribe won't reinstate a leader ousted from office for accepting gifts from the Washington Redskins. The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah said Tuesday that its leadership council has denied an appeal from Gari Lafferty, who lost her position last month after accepting the gifts that council members said wrongly linked their tribe to the NFL team's divisive name.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah prosecutors say they're looking into allegations that a Democratic state lawmaker who worked for Salt Lake County's mayor cannot account for $30,000 in missing campaign cash. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Mayor Ben McAdams, a Democrat, says prosecutors are reviewing the issue after he learned former staffer Justin Miller can't account for the money.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a Park City-based company broke the law when it fired an employee who took leave for military service. The Department of Justice announced the lawsuit against the Veteran's Trading Co. yesterday. Prosecutors say the company fired Naval Reserve Captain Paul Costello from his position as president in July 2013 and denied re-employment later that year.
