A pair of local college football talents were selected in the 2015 Canadian Football League draft, which was held Tuesday night.
Former Utah State tight end Jefferson Court will reunite with another former Aggie at the Ottawa Redblacks, which selected Court with the No. 37 overall pick. Court, who is listed as a fullback for Ottawa, joins former Aggie defensive end Connor Williams, who is in his second season with the Redblacks. The 6-foot-3, 238-pound Court prepped at Alta High School and transferred from BYU to Logan, where he finished his career with seven catches for 31 yards and three touchdowns.
Court and Williams join Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive end John Chick and Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back Chris Randle as Aggie alums currently on CFL rosters.
Former BYU offensive lineman Quinn Lawlor was taken with the No. 48 overall pick by the Montreal Alouettes. The 6-foot-4, 306-pound draft-pick is listed to play defense by the Alouettes, which also boasts former BYU wide receiver Cody Hoffman. Hoffman signed a two-year deal with the Alouettes last year.
Lawlor, who prepped at Orem High School, was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and will not take an international roster spot in the CFL. Lawlor and Hoffman give BYU four alums on CFL rosters, joining quarterback John Beck and wide receiver Austin Collie, who both play for the BC Lions.
Former UConn offensive lineman Alex Mateas was the No. 1 pick in the draft, taken by Ottawa.
