INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova has been assessed a technical foul by the NBA for his role in a skirmish in Game 5 against the Bulls.

Dellavedova locked his legs around Chicago forward Taj Gibson, who was ejected in the fourth quarter after kicking his leg to free himself from the guard's hold. Dellavedova also received an automatic $2,000 fine for the technical.

Gibson had initially pushed Dellavedova down from behind before the pair got tangled under the basket. Following the game, Cavs guard J.R. Smith accused Gibson of a "dirty play" and Dellavedova claimed he was "just trying to get up" when he was kicked by Gibson.

The Eastern Conference semifinal series has had other heated moments with LeBron James saying Chicago's Joakim Noah disrespected him with comments during Game 3.

The Cavs lead the series 3-2 entering Thursday's Game 6 in Chicago.
