KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Still dealing with last month's death and destruction, another powerful earthquake has struck Nepal. It was centered midway between hard-hit Kathmandu and Mount Everest. Most of the impact was felt in the foothills of the Himalayas, but shaking in the capital sent thousands of terrified people into the streets. Today's quake killed dozens. Meanwhile, U.S. officials say a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter carrying six Marines and two Nepalese soldiers remains missing. It had been delivering aid.

BRUSSELS (AP) — A senior European Union official says the U.N. Security Council will be asked to approve a resolution that would allow EU members to hunt down human traffickers in the Mediterranean and destroy their boats. More than 170,000 illegal border crossings were recorded through the Mediterranean last year. Most were Syrians and Eritreans leaving via Libya.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — A Texas inmate convicted of killing three people has been executed. Lawyers for Derrick Dewayne Charles had argued that he was mentally incompetent and that they needed more time to pursue the claim. Charles was convicted of killing his girlfriend, her mother and her grandfather nearly 13 years ago in Houston.
