SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — New state data shows that raising the speed limit to 70 mph on most urban interstates along Utah's Wasatch Front hasn't led to a major increase in average speed by motorists as some feared it would. Utah transportation officials said this week that's because most highway motorists in the state's urban core drove about 70 mph or faster when the speed limit was 65, and their speed stayed about the same when the legal speed went up in December.
VERNAL, Utah (AP) — A Vernal infant has died 11 days after being found unresponsive in his family's hot tub. Sixteen-month-old Bronx Young died Saturday at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. Investigators say the child appeared to have been in the tub for a short period of time, and the death was a tragic accident.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A retired American soldier has criticized a Canadian judge's decision to allow the release of a former Guantanamo Bay inmate on bail, saying he's a dangerous terrorist who poses a threat to the West's safety. Toronto-born Omar Khadr was convicted of war crimes, including throwing a grenade when he was 15 years old that killed an American soldier in Afghanistan during a 2002 firefight. Khadr says he now categorically rejects violent jihad.
ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Marie Osmond cheered with others as a nephew completed a 250-mile, eight-day run in southern Utah to raise money and awareness for the hearing impaired. She flew in from Las Vegas, where she performs with brother Donny, to hug Justin Osmond as he finished the run Saturday in St. George.
